InterCom: a mentor program for international students

The Melbourne Graduate School of Management is aware of the unique transition that international students experience as a part of their sojourn to the University of Melbourne. In recognition of this, a buddy program has been created by the Faculty of Economics and Commerce to assist students with their transition. By participating in the InterCom program, you will have the opportunity to get in touch with a current Melbourne Graduate School of Management student via email correspondence before you arrive. This way, you will have someone to answer questions, share tips on local culture and practice new language skills with prior to arriving in Melbourne. Having an interCom Mentor is also a great way of extending social networks and linking up to groups and services on and off campus, thereby improving the quality and speed of your transition to student life in Melbourne.

The program will run from 25 January - 8 March in Semester 1 2010.

InterCom is open to Exchange and international students coming to study at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management in March 2010. Registrations close on 8 January 2010.

If you are interested in joining the InterCom Mentor program, please register your details.

Commerce Research and Learning Skills (CRALS) Program

The Commerce Research and Learning Skills (CRALS) program is an optional free, not-for-credit subject intended for international students who are about to commence studying a Masters by coursework program offered by the Melbourne Graduate School of Management. Research students are also welcome to participate. The program is offered in intensive mode between the hours of 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday for three weeks before the start of each semester, and focuses on developing information literacy, mathematics and computer literacy skills. Participants will also improve critical thinking and analysis, and gain assistance with English language proficiency.

The program is highly recommended for international students who arrive in Melbourne early (at least four weeks before the start of semester).

The program will run from 1 February - 19 February in Semester 1 2010.
