Can I Change My Subjects?

Yes!

All new students should automatically be enrolled in up to four standard recommended subjects for their course (ie: as a full-time student), however we realise that the standard course plan may not suit everyone (those who wish to enrol as a part-time student for example).

You can change your enrolment to your prefered subjects by one of the methods outlined below - any subject changes outside of these periods (eg: before 22 July) can be made by using the Subject Change Form:

How & when can I change my subjects?

19 July - 3 August: You can change your subjects online on the Student Information System

4 August onward: You can change your subjects manually, by completing the Subject Change Form (PDF 668kb).
Submit this form to the Melbourne Graduate School of Management Student Centre located on Level 4 of the Alan Gilbert Building.

Key dates for withdrawal from subjects:
8 August:
Last date to withdraw from subjects without incurring a "Withdrawn" result ('WD') on your transcript.

31 August: Last date to withdraw from subjects without incurring a HECS/ FEE-HELP debt, or to obtain a full fee-refund for any fees paid in advance (a 'WD' will be recorded on your transcript).

10 October: Last date to withdraw from subjects without incurring a 'Fail' result (HECS/ FEE-HELP payable, or no fee refund for fees paid in advance).
top of pagetop of page

All subject change requests submitted via the Student Information System automatically generate an e-mail to advise you of an 'error' - the 'error' is that 'you have not automatically been enrolled in your selected subjects, as all subjects at your year/ course level need to be approved by your Faculy'.

Please disregard this e-mail; if you have received it, it means that your subject change request has been received, and is in the process of being checked by Faculty &/ or academic staff. It does not necessarily mean that there is a mistake with your subject selection. If your subject selection is not approved, you will be contacted with an explanation as to why, and you will be asked to re-submit your subject selection.

Please note that some classes fill quickly, so the later you enrol into a subject, the greater the risk that you may not be able to enrol into it this semester. You can check online to see if your preferred subject is full.

If you wish to enrol into a subject that is already full, please contact your program administrator to be placed on a waiting list.

To enrol in subjects that are not part of your program, written permission must be obtained from the subject cordinator/ lecturer and from your Academic Program Director.
Permission details can be collected on the back of the Download Adobe Acrobat Reader Subject Change Form (PDF 668kb).

Please note the key dates for withdrawal from subjects.

TRANSFERRING TO A DIFFERENT COURSE

Local Students:

If you are a new local student wishing to change your course preference to a different course, you must lodge your application with the Admissions Officer by no later than Friday 11 July. No changes of preference will be accepted after this date.

A change of preference is when you wish to be considered for entry to a new program that has different entrance requirements to that of the program you've already received an offer for, but have not yet enrolled in. In this situation, your application will need to be reassessed for entry to the new program.

For example, if you currently hold an offer of entry to the Master of International Business program, have not yet enrolled, but wish to be considered for entry to the Master of Applied Finance, you will need to request a change of preference as your application will need to be reassessed for entry to the Master of Applied Finance.

If your change of preference is successful, online enrolment into the new program must be completed by no later than Friday 8 August.

Note:

A change of preference is not required if you have already enrolled in another Faculty of Economics and Commerce graduate program, wish to transfer to a different stream or major within the same program (eg: from a 12 subject to a 16 subject program, or from a Master of Applied Commerce (Marketing) to a Master of Applied Commerce (Accounting)) or wish to transfer to a different course.  You may enrol into the program (if you haven’t already done so), and apply for an Internal Transfer after successful completion of your first semester of study.  See 'Internal Transfer' section below.
top of pagetop of page

International Students:

All international students are requested to enrol into the course for which they have been made an offer, and submit an Internal Transfer request after the successful completion of their first semester. Alternatively, you may elect to decline your offer of a place in Semester 2, and re-apply for a place in another course for entry in Semester 1, 2009.

All students considering applying for an Internal Transfer after their first semester are advised to discuss their current course plan with a course adviser.

Internal Transfer:

Students who are already enrolled within a graduate program at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management, who wish to change their major (eg: from Master of Applied Commerce (Marketing) to Master of Applied Commerce (Accounting)), or who wish to change to a different stream within the same program (eg: from the 12 subject program to 16 subject program), or to a different program, may not apply for an Internal Transfer until after successfully completing their first semester of study.
If you are considering submitting an Internal Transfer request after the completion of your first semester, it is advised that you discuss your current study plan with a course adviser.

Students who are already enrolled in a graduate program with another faculty will be required to submit a new application with the Melbourne Graduate School of Management.
