PhD in Management and Marketing

Overview

The PhD in Management and Marketing will equip you with fundamental understanding of the research process, to prepare you for an academic career in your field.

Our broad research and teaching expertise can be grouped around the five specialised areas of human resource management and industrial relations, international and strategic management, marketing, operations management and organisational studies.

Research is undertaken both in Australia and abroad and is published in leading international and regional journals, as well as being presented at the most prominent international management and marketing conferences.

Program structure

The PhD in Management and Marketing consists of three years of full-time or six years of part-time study.

Commencement is only available at the start of Semester 1 (February/March) of any given year, and you must commence your studies within the first two weeks of semester.

The award of the PhD is based solely on the result of the thesis. The thesis will be assessed by two external examiners.

Financial support

The Department of Management and Marketing provides funding to full-time and part-time PhD students up to a maximum of AU$10,000 during their candidature. As our students are encouraged to interact with the broader academic community and industry through conference presentations and attendance, collaboration on publications and through consultancies, AU$4000 is to be used for conference and doctoral consortium attendance purposes. Incidentals will be funded up to AU$1000 while the remaining AU$5000 may be accessed to fund fieldwork.

The Department also endeavours to advance candidates’ academic development by exposing them to lecturing opportunities where possible. Many of our candidates are employed as Tutors for our undergraduate subjects and Research Assistants for our academic staff members.
