Master of Business and IT
Overview
There is high demand for executives and professionals who understand business and information technology in a truly integrated fashion. The Master of Business and IT has been specifically designed to equip you with the knowledge for IT-enabled business success in the global digital economy.
You will gain essential business knowledge and skills, together with an understanding of the business applications of information technology. The course is flexible, so that if you come from a business or an IT background (or neither), you can avoid repetition and focus your studies on the areas you need to build knowledge in.
The program is ideal for graduates seeking managerial or commercial roles in IT-enabled organisations or the information and communications technology industry.
Program structure
There are two streams for the Master of Business and IT, depending on your work experience. A customised course plan will be devised for every student after consultation with the Program Director, taking into account prior study, nature and length of work experience, and desired career outcomes.
12 subject program
- 18 months of full-time or three years of part-time study
- Two subjects from Group 1 (Business Foundation), two subjects from Group 2 (Business Information Systems), one subject from Group 3 (People/Organisations), one subject from Group 4 (Management of Technology and Operations), one subject from Group 5 (Management Issues), five electives chosen from any group

16 subject program
- Two years of full-time or four years of part-time study
- Two core subjects, two subjects from Group 1 (Business Foundation), two subjects from Group 2 (Business Information Systems), one subject from Group 3 (People/Organisations), one subject from Group 4 (Management of Technology and Operations), one subject from Group 5 (Management Issues), seven electives chosen from any group

How you will benefit
On successful completion of this program, graduates should be able to
- Analyse, apply and explain the role of information and communications technology in enabling innovation in accounting and financial management, marketing, people management and product choice, pricing and promotion
- Understand the economic and commercial impact of IT on business performance
- Analyse and apply fundamental management principles in an IT environment
- Explain the inter-relationship between business strategy and technology strategy
- Critically evaluate business proposals and plans from both a business and a technology perspective.
We can help you shape your course plan according to your desired career path. Typical career outcomes include: business analyst, Chief Information Officer, systems analyst, IT consultant, operations manager, IT manager, business manager, knowledge manager or IT sales manager.
Minimum entry requirements
- 12 subject program - an undergraduate degree in any discipline, or equivalent, and at least one year of full-time relevant work and/or professional experience since completion of the undergraduate degree or equivalent
- 16 subject program - an undergraduate degree in any discipline, or equivalent
- A minimum score of 550 in the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
- A personal statement
The Selection Committee may conduct interviews and tests and may call for referee reports or employer references to elucidate any of the matters referred to above.

Exit points
If you are unable or choose not to continue with your studies, you may be eligible to be awarded the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.
