All applicants* seeking entry to masters programs are required to sit the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), or in some cases the Graduate Record Examination(GRE), and submit these results as part of their application.
Applicants seeking entry to PhD level programs in 2010 are also required to submit GMAT results with their application.
Applicants* to the Master of Economics, Master of Commerce by Thesis in the area of Actuarial Studies, PhD with Coursework (Economics) and PhD by Thesis (Actuarial Studies) must sit the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
Original documentation of GMAT or GRE results should be submitted with your application. Although we can make an offer conditional on the GMAT if you meet all other minimum requirements, we do prefer that the GMAT is submitted with your application. International applicants who submit a GMAT/GRE with their application will not be charged the application fee. GMAT and GRE test fees will be reimbursed for successful applicants who enrol in a Melbourne GSM program.
*The Melbourne GSM will exempt the GMAT/GRE requirement for Masters by Coursework applicants with an undergraduate or graduate degree from an Australian university, who have achieved a GPA of 75 per cent. The Faculty reserves the right to exempt applicants from the GMAT/GRE requirement. Please note this exemption does not apply to graduate research degrees.
Masters by Coursework applicants who have studied in an international institution may be assessed for a waiver on a case by case basis.
What is the GMAT?
The GMAT is a standardised assessment, delivered in English, and is used by leading business schools around the world to assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management.
The GMAT consists of three sections: Analytical Writing, Quantitative and Verbal, and measures a person's ability to read, understand and reason logically with both verbal and quantitative material. It does not measure knowledge in specific subjects.
What is the required GMAT score?
The Selection Committee uses a number of measures to judge your application including the results of your undergraduate degree, your personal statement and the results of your GMAT. You should be aiming for a minimum score of 550 in the GMAT.
