The Student Host Program

Every semester hundreds of new students commence their studies at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management on Orientation & Enrolment Day.

New students arrive with lots of questions about their course, the campus, services and student clubs, to name but a few. Orientation Day is a chance for new students to have these questions answered, meet their fellow classmates and to make new friends.

To make the new students’ first day at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management a success we encourage all Melbourne GSM students to apply to be a Student Host for the Semester 2 2009 Orientation Day which is on Saturday 18th July. All current coursework and research graduate students are eligible to apply. If you have recently graduated you are still eligible and we welcome your application.

In Semester 1, 2009 the Student Host Program extended beyond Orientation Day to include the Pre-Semester Program where hosts can become buddies to the new students.

Pre Semester Program

Student Hosts can choose to further develop their communication, teamwork and leadership skills, by hosting a team of five students participating in the Pre- Semester Program for the week. The Host supports his or her team with their case study, assists with finding resources and library research, encourages participation in the social functions and supports Faculty staff throughout the week. The program provides a great opportunity for current students to support new students and share with them the skills and knowledge acquired from studying at the University.

The Pre-Semester Program (PSP) is a week long introduction to studying at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management, centred around a case study and skill development sessions. The case study provides new incoming students from diverse backgrounds with a valuable opportunity to build a shared academic foundation, to develop essential study and professional skills, to establish friendships and transition into student life, and to familiarise themselves with the University and the Melbourne GSM before classes begin.
