Spring into Shape Run/Walk: Sunday 26 October

On Sunday the 26th of October a group of Melbourne GSM students took part in the Spring into Shape event, walking or running either 4km or 8km. While many enjoyed a social walk around the Yarra others ran the course. The stars of the day, finishing first out of the 34 GSM students who participated, were Filippo Baschera who ran the 4km in 19.15min and Jonathan Taylor who ran the 8km in 38.33min. After running or walking the group enjoyed a barbecue along the Yarra River to refuel!

Networking Event with Deakin Business School Society: Thursday 23 October

The Melbourne GSM and Deakin Business School networking event held was the first social event Melbourne GSM Student Group has co-hosted with another University. The night was a great success, as students mingled, discussed their studying experiences and generally socialised. Mukund Narayaramuti, a Senior Manager of KPMG and graduate of both the University of Melbourne and Deakin, gave a guest speech, providing students insight on both the studying experience as well as achieving career objectives.

Informal networking event at Victor's Bar: Friday 17 October

On Friday the 17th of October the Student Group organised an informal get together at Victor's lounge bar. Thirty Students mingled, discussed their studying experiences and generally socialised. This was a perfect way for students to take a break from assignments! Thanks for everyone who was able to come!

Bowling Night: Tuesday 23 September

The Bowling Night on Tuesday 23rd of September was a night where Melbourne GSM students gathered together in the mid-semester break to enjoy bowling, time with old friends, and the opportunity to meet new ones. Four students with top scores won prizes of vouchers ranging in value from $20 to $40. After two games of bowling, students enjoyed an opportunity to showcase their singing talents as they participated in Karaoke at Strike.

Careers Day: Friday 12 September

On Friday the 12th of September the Graduate Careers Centre, with the help of the Melbourne GSM Student Group, held Semester 2 Career Day. The day started with a presentation on the Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) by Mary Grench, an expert on career consultation. The presentation included a brief version of the actual test and helped students identify their personality types. The presentation was followed by a group exercise in which both the students and the faculty participated. After a short tea break Mr. Bill Lang, from Bill Lang International, spoke about the strategies required for success in job hunting after graduation. He gave valuable tips to the students including examples from his own experience as a student at The University of Melbourne. The presentation was followed by a delicious lunch that was enjoyed by all. The day ended with a Question and Answer session with the Alumni of Melbourne GSM.

Melbourne City Tour: Saturday 30 August

On Saturday 30th of August Melbourne GSM student group held a City Tour of Melbourne. The group took the free tourist shuttle bus, visiting many of Melbourne’s iconic tourist spots including the Victoria market, Melbourne Museum, NGV, Shrine of Remembrance and the Eureka Skydeck. Despite a typical chilly Melbourne day a fun day was had by all!

Theatre Night: Friday 29 August

On 29th August, a group of GSM students attended Theatre night hosted by GSM Student Group to see the annual production of the Chinese Theatre Group, The Beauty Entrapment. This event commenced with a short tour around the Open Stage theatre located in The Arts Centre where the production took place. Students were able to view sets designs and technical instruments during the short tour. A pizza dinner was organized for the group at Papa Gino’s on Lygon Street before the show commenced.

Morning Tea: Tuesday 26 August

The Morning Tea gave Melbourne GSM students an opportunity to get together with other peers, socialise and meet new students. This was a perfect way for students to bid farewell to winter! Thanks for everyone who was able to come!

Scavenger Hunt: Friday 15 August

12 teams of Melbourne GSM students came along to compete in the famous Scavenger Hunt. The event began at Alan Gilbert Building where clues were handed out for 34 questions to be answered. The teams made there way along Lygon St into Melbourne CBD's to eventually finish the Scavenger Hunt at Lounge where prizes were awarded. There were very close results across all teams however in the end three teams were placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd: Team WOW came first and each received a $50 voucher, followed by Team E who received a $30 voucher and in third place D Hunter's each received a $20 voucher.
