Internal Transfers
In some situations it may be possible for students currently enrolled in a program offered by the Melbourne Graduate School of Management to transfer to another of our programs - this is called an Internal Transfer. New students commencing their first semester of study may not be eligible for Internal Transfer until after completing their first semester of study. In this instance, it is advised that new students seek study planning advice from their Academic Program Manager prior to enrolling, to ensure their first semester subjects can be credited to their preferred program.
Eligibility
Continuing students are eligible to apply for an Internal Transfer within their program if they have successfully completed at least one semester of study. Continuing students are not eligible to apply for an Internal Transfer if they are about to commence their final semester of study, unless they wish to extend the duration of their study - for example from 12 subjects to 16 subjects within the same program.
Applicants who wish to transfer to a different program are eligible to apply for an Internal Transfer to a new program, provided they have successfully completed at least one semester of full-time study at a pass rate of not less than 65%. Applicants may be required to wait until after the final results release date before their application will be processed.
Applicants who wish to transfer must meet all minimum entrance requirements of the program they wish to transfer into, and are advised to check the latest entrance requirements with Melbourne Graduate School of Management staff, or online: http://www.melbournegsm.unimelb.edu.au/future/admissions/entry_reqs.html
Please note:
Applicants who wish to transfer from a 16 subject Master of Applied Commerce program to a 12 subject Master of Applied Commerce program are required to have one year of full-time work experience. The work experience may have been acquired at any time (before, during or after your undergraduate years), but must have been completed prior to your enrolment as a graduate student at the University of Melbourne. The one year of work experience can be acquired in one continuous period of employment, multiple periods of employment, or in a part-time capacity. Students who have successfully completed 325-491 Business Fundamentals and a 200 or 300 level subject are not eligible to have these subjects credited to the 12 subject program.
Applicants who commenced their study prior to January 1 2005 may incur higher course fees as a result of an Internal Transfer.
Application
All students are required to complete the Application for Internal Transfer form (PDF 478kb) and submit along with any supporting documentation to the Melbourne Graduate School of Management. Applications for Internal Transfer for continuing students are open until three weeks before semester begins. After this date, students need to see their Academic Program Manager to discuss their request to transfer programs.
