Melbourne Graduate School of Management Current Students

Assessment

The Melbourne GSM aims to employ approaches to assessment and grading that positively influence students' study habits; provide students with helpful feedback where possible, and measure fairly, grade and report the extent of student learning. It is the responsibility of all students to be familiar with the rules made by council pursuant to statute Regulation 12.2.10, Rules relating to assessment.

Assessment Procedures

Students will be informed during the first two weeks of lectures of the assessment procedures for essays, classwork, tests, and the final examination or other work required. The weightings of assessment components of a subject will be posted on departmental notice boards at the beginning of the academic year. Unless expressly stated otherwise, all examinations and tests will be in written form.

Assignment Submission Process

The majority of assignments for subjects offered by the Faculty of Economics and Commerce will be submitted online through the Assignment Submission Tool. The Assignment Tool can be accessed by logging into the LMS and accessing the relevant LMS subject page. You should consult your tutor or subject coordinator to ascertain the submission method of your assignments.

For those assignments that are to be submitted in hard copy, an Assignment Coversheet must be completed and attached:

Individual Assignment Coversheet (PDF 47kb)
Group Assignment Coversheet (PDF 47kb)

Attendance at Lectures and Written Work

Attendance at lectures and tutorials is compulsory for all students in the subjects taught by the Faculty. It is the student's responsibility to obtain instructions, programs and guidelines issued by staff and to ensure that he or she remains informed as to the requirements of each of the subjects being undertaken. Essays and other written work as set by the lecturers will be taken into account and failure to submit the required work may result in exclusion from the examinations.

Academic Honesty and Plagiarism

Academic Honesty and Plagiarism is taken very seriously within the University. The University's policy on Plagiarism states that cheating by students in any form is not permitted, and work submitted for assessment purposes must be the independent work of the student concerned (or, where joint work is permitted, of the students concerned).

Plagiarism is defined by the University as '... the act of representing as one's own original work the creative works of another, without appropriate acknowledgment of the author or source.'

Time Extensions

If you are experiencing interferences with your studies that are outside of your control, you may be eligible to receive an assignment extension. You will be required to complete and submit the Assignment Extension Request form (PDF, 322kb). You will need to complete all sections of the downloaded form before submitting it to the Melbourne Graduate School of Management Student Centre for consideration.
