Allocation of Commerce tutorials
The tutorial system for most subjects in commerce is called Alloc8. Alloc8 provisionally allocates students to both lectures and tutorials for Commerce subjects.
All students enrolled in a graduate Commerce subject must use Alloc8 to determine subject lecture and tutorial times:
What commerce subjects are on Alloc8?
Please note only some graduate subjects are scheduled by Alloc8. Graduate students should refer to the information below on "How do I access my timetable for subjects not on Alloc8?"
How does it work and when does it open?
Alloc8 does not require you to lodge preferences, but allocates classes based on a best fit model taking into consideration students' lectures and available tutorials. Alloc8 will provide you with a clash-free timetable (unless this is impossible) that you can then amend if there are available alternatives.
You will be able to view your own timetable for Semester 2 from Wednesday 15 July 2009. Any computer with Internet access can be used to do this; you do not have to be on campus. A list of Commerce computer laboratories can be found at http://www.ecom.unimelb.edu.au/services/computing/facilities.html.
Once you have viewed your timetable you can make changes to it by following the instructions given. Please note you will only be able to change your allocated time if there are available alternatives.
How do I access my timetable for subjects not on Alloc8?
Timetable and venue information for all University lectures can be found via the Student Portal, or by using the six digit subject code to manually search the University timetable page. If you have enrolled in subjects offered by faculties not on Alloc8, you should contact the relevant Faculty to sign up for classes.
What if I change my subjects after Alloc8 has opened?
Your Semester 2 subjects in which you are enrolled before Tuesday 14 July 2009 will appear on your timetable from Wednesday 15 July 2009 (provided they are included on Alloc8). If you change your subjects after this date you will have to go back into Alloc8 and check your updated timetable (Alloc8 will be updated with your subjects every hour or so). You may make changes to your Alloc8 timetable from Thursday 16 July 2009. If you wish to change your subjects you may do so online (see Subject Changes).
When does Alloc8 close?
Alloc8 closes at 3.30pm sharp on Friday 7 August 2009. Timetables will remain as view only after this time.
What do I do if I have problems with my timetable?
If you are unable to resolve your timetable and wish to be listed in a different tutorial or lecture stream than those allocated to you through Alloc8, you must seek assistance from the Melbourne Graduate School of Management Student Centre by sending an email to alloc8-melbournegsm@unimelb.edu.au
Assistance may be provided for:
- timetable clash with another University of Melbourne subject
- work commitments
- religious reasons
- if you are studying part-time medical reasons including a disability (ie. no audio equipment in your allocated room)
- other serious issues (to be decided by your Academic Program Manager).
Note: documentation may be required in support of any of the above reasons.
Assistance will NOT be provided in the following cases:
- a ‘gap’ in your timetable
- requiring a day off
- a preference to be in the same tutorial/lecture/seminar stream as a friend
- classes too early in the day
