Melbourne Graduate School of Management

Industry links

The Melbourne GSM maintains strong links with the Australian business community, essential to providing a rounded business education. In this two-way exchange we offer our thought-leadership and research skills and, in turn, business has a voice in embedding practical business priorities into our curriculum.

The Melbourne GSM enjoys guidance from our Faculty Advisory Board, made up of senior Australian business people who contribute to our direction and keep us abreast of developments and thinking in the business community.

Advisory Board Members include:

Through our Graduate Careers Centre, our business links allow us to provide internships and industry mentors for our graduate students along with enhanced recruitment opportunities, prizes and scholarships.

Knowledge Transfer

“Knowledge transfer” is the term we use to describe our ongoing engagement with business and the community. It is a guiding principle for the University to make a contribution to the world outside of academia, and to broaden our experience and knowledge in so doing. Some of our major knowledge transfer activities take place through research projects with industry partners.

In 2007, three significant projects received Australian Research Council funding, allowing our researchers to investigate issues of pressing importance to business and the community such as commodity pricing cycles, developing human capital in organisations or the future of aged care in Australia. The knowledge generated by these projects provides many tangible benefits to partner organisations, the state of research in the relevant academic fields and our students, whose classroom experience is enriched by real world knowledge directly applicable to their studies.

Providing an accessible window on the latest academic thinking, we also publish Insights a bi-annual journal compiling the recent public lectures and addresses that have been made in the Faculty. Insights is available at http://insights.unimelb.edu.au.
