Industry links
The Melbourne GSM maintains strong links with the Australian business community. These links allow us to provide industry mentors for our graduate students and fund a significant number of subject prizes.
The Melbourne GSM enjoys guidance from our Faculty Advisory Board, made up of Australian business leaders whose input helps us to keep our programs and student experiences relevant. Current Advisory Board Members include:
- Peter Yates, Director, Peony Capital (Head of Advisory Board)
- Hugh Morgan, Former Business Council Chairman
- Ian McFarlane, Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia
- Sally Capp, Chief Executive of the Committee for Melbourne.
Knowledge Transfer
“Knowledge transfer” describes our ongoing engagement with business and the community. It is a University-wide guiding principle, reflecting our commitment to make a contribution to the world outside of academia, and to broaden our experience and knowledge in so doing. Some of our major knowledge transfer activities take place through research projects with industry partners.
In 2007, three significant projects received Australian Research Council funding, allowing our researchers to investigate issues of pressing importance to business and the community such as commodity pricing cycles, developing human capital in organisations or the future of aged care in Australia. The knowledge generated by these projects provides many tangible benefits to partner organisations, the state of research in the relevant academic fields and our students, whose classroom experience is enriched by real world knowledge directly applicable to their studies.
Providing an accessible window on the latest academic thinking, we also publish Insights, a bi-annual journal compiling the recent public lectures and addresses that have been made in the Faculty. You can read the current and past issues of Insights online.
