Here are some of our recent graduates:
Carlos Alberto Bolaños-AlfonsoMaster of International Business 2006, Columbia Carlos came from Colombia to study the Master of International Business (MIB) in 2005. On graduation he secured a position as an analyst with Ariba, consulting to BHP Billiton in Melbourne. One year after graduating, he moved to Perth, the centre of Australia's minerals boom, to work for BHP Billiton as a supply chain specialist. Carlos found the MIB delivered the practical knowledge he needed to succeed professionally: "While student life can be pretty easy going with the only responsibility to learn and achieve good results, work demands more endurance and continuous effort. Fortunately when I did return to work in a role with professional responsibilities, I found I was able to effectively utilise the concepts, frameworks and knowledge I gained throughout the MIB."

Edgar Gonzalez OleaMaster of Business and Information Systems 2005, Mexico "Since graduation, the MBIT has definitely had a positive effect on my career development. Upon my return to Mexico, I have had the chance to explore several new career paths and I am now Executive Director to a Public Trust Fund where I coordinate the administration and sales of a pool of companies and real estate assets. I chose the University of Melbourne because of its regional reputation, geographical location, high quality of staff and facilities and Melbourne’s great living standards. I really enjoyed my study experience. There was a mix of intense academic periods and rich, multicultural, interpersonal relationships. I was also helped by the personal attention I received from my program director, Michael Davern, and from my personal tutor, Mr. Jurgüen Schnider, whose personal and professional advice helped me through the whole MBIT experience. All of the faculty staff, academic and non-academic, provided great support for me and my family. I would definitely advise all students taking the MBIT to take full advantage of the mentorship program."

Danielle WoodMaster of Commerce (Economics) 2004, Australia "Undertaking the Masters of Commerce at the University of Melbourne helped refine my economic analysis skills, allowing me to take on greater responsibility in my current job. In the future I would like to work overseas and I think that having a Masters degree from Melbourne will make me more attractive in the international marketplace. My job at the Productivity Commission involves working as part of a team to respond to requests from the Australian Government for advice on policy issues. Day-to-day I am involved in conducting economic research, consulting with interested parties, writing reports and formulating policy recommendations. Reports that I have worked on get tabled in Parliament and are quoted in the media - that's a highlight for me. As well as being experts in their fields, most of the lecturers I came across during my time in the Faculty were enthusiastic and happy to engage with students. In particular, I had a fantastic Masters supervisor who inspired me to give my all for my Masters thesis." |
